Seeking Understanding, Building Confidence, Creating Positive Change
Compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming assessments for children, young people and adults – providing clarity, understanding and practical support for the future.
Our Assessments
Sometimes families, young people and adults reach a point where they know something is different but are unsure why.
There may be questions about attention, learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, sensory experiences or day-to-day functioning. There may be challenges at home, in education, work or in relationships. Equally, there may be strengths, talents and ways of thinking that deserve to be better understood and celebrated.
At Childhood Matters, we believe that assessment should be about more than diagnosis or a label. It should provide insight, understanding and a clear pathway forward.
Our screeners and assessments are designed to help individuals and families make sense of their experiences, understand their unique profile of strengths and needs, and identify the support that will enable them to thrive.
Whether a screener indicates a specific trait, or an assessment results in a diagnosis or not, our goal is always the same: to provide meaningful understanding, practical recommendations and compassionate support.
Why Choose Childhood Matters?
We See the Whole Person
We take time to understand the individual within the context of their family, relationships, experiences, strengths, interests and environment.
We Value Difference
We recognise and celebrate neurodiversity and believe that different ways of thinking, learning and experiencing the world should be understood rather than judged.
We Work in Partnership
Screening and assessment is something we do with individuals and families, not to them. We listen carefully to the voices of children, young people, adults and those who know them best.
We Focus on Supportive Outcomes
Our screeners and assessments are designed to answer important questions and provide practical recommendations that can make a genuine difference at home, in education, in the workplace and in everyday life.
What Makes Our Reports Different?
All our reports are written to be practical, accessible and meaningful. Every report includes:

Clear Findings
Assessment outcomes are explained in a way that is understandable and transparent.
Practical Recommendations
Recommendations are tailored to the individual and designed to support success at home, in education, in the workplace and within the wider community.

We aim to help families, schools and organisations understand how environments can be adapted to support participation, wellbeing and achievement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a neurodevelopmental assessment always result in a diagnosis?
No. Assessment is about understanding an individual's experiences and needs. While some individuals will meet diagnostic criteria, others may not. Regardless of the outcome, every assessment provides valuable insight and recommendations.
How long does the process take?
Most neurodevelopmental assessments are completed within 4–6 weeks once all required information has been received.
Can screeners and assessments be completed remotely?
Many elements can be completed online. Some assessments may require face-to-face appointments depending on the context and need.
Will schools or colleges be involved?
With consent, information from educational settings can help provide a fuller understanding of the individual's experiences and support needs.
What happens after the assessment?
We provide recommendations and can offer additional support through consultation, coaching, mentoring, educational planning and signposting to relevant services.
